One of the most important aspects of fish keeping, is the food and feeding process. Plecos are no different in this regard. You have to know exactly what type of food they eat and how often. That’s because this way, you’ll make sure they’re healthy and thrive in the tank.
Plecos are algae-eaters, but your home aquarium won’t provide enough algae to keep your pleco full. You’ll need to feed plecos a well-balanced diet. Keep in mind that plecos are omnivores. This means that you can give them vegetable food and meat as well.
A healthy diet for your pleco consists of: Algae and sinking algae wafers with live food or frozen blood worms once or twice a week. Plecos require plenty of fiber Supplements here’s a list of foods you can feed your pleco
Raw Zucchini
Sweet Potato
Cucumber
Courgette
Carrot
Repashy SuperFood
Lima Beans
Broccoli
Boiled Peas Then Left To Cool
Spinach
Live Baby Brine Shrimp
Frozen Blood worms
Frozen Brine Shimp
If you put in anything that contains the skin or rind be sure to scrub it first to get rid of any pesticides.
I recommend switching between vegetables and algae wafers every time u feed and I also recommended live baby brine shrimp once or twice a week these are full of beneficial nutrition from the egg sacks
Any one of the food items listed above can prove to be a good source of nutrients for plecos.
Although most plecos are herbivores or omnivores, there are a few mainly carnivorous plecos, including two spectacular beauties – the leopard cactus pleco and the goldie pleco. These plecos grow large and can be aggressive – particularly as adults, and as such are only suitable for large tanks with plenty of cover and line of sight barriers.
How do I know if my pleco is eating enough?
After you provide food for your pleco, watch and see if your pleco gobbles it down. If your pleco immediately begins to munch on the food, they may be overly hungry and need to be fed more often. If your pleco ignores the food, they may need to be fed less often.
Having a clean fish tank is one of the most important aspect to fish keeping. so it’s good to have a good combination of filters in your fish tank because they help to get rid of the harmful substances in your tap water. like Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite chlorine and reduces Alge. Don’t forget that Nitrate, Nitrite are two different things, and that chlorine should be removed from the water before adding to your fish tank.
