Ember Tetra Fish (Species Profile)

Here’s an article on the Ember Tetra fish species profile. Tank Size, Feeding, Breeding, Tankmates, and Aquatic Plants

Ember Tetra (Hyphessobrycon amandae) is a small, colorful, and peaceful freshwater fish that is native to Brazil. It is a popular choice for aquarists due to its vibrant orange-red coloration and ease of care. This species profile will cover the best tank size for Ember Tetra, what to feed them, how to breed them, other fish that can live with them, and the best aquatic plants for them in your aquarium.

Best Tank Size for Ember Tetra

The Ember Tetra is a small fish, with a maximum size of 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length. Therefore, it is best to keep them in a small to medium-sized tank, preferably with a minimum size of 10 gallons (38 liters). However, if you plan to keep a group of Ember Tetras, it is recommended to have a larger tank that can accommodate at least 10 to 15 individuals. A well-planted aquarium with soft and slightly acidic water is ideal for these fish.

What to Feed Ember Tetra in Your Aquarium

Ember Tetras are omnivorous, and in the wild, they feed on small insects, crustaceans, and plant matter. In an aquarium, they are not picky eaters and will readily accept a variety of foods. You can feed them high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen or live foods, such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. It is best to feed them small portions twice a day rather than one large feeding.

How to Breed Ember Tetra in Your Aquarium

Breeding Ember Tetras in an aquarium is relatively easy. The best way to encourage breeding is to create a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding places. The water should be slightly acidic with a pH between 6.0 to 6.5, and the temperature should be around 78°F (25.5°C). The female will lay eggs on the underside of leaves, and the male will fertilize them. After spawning, remove the adult fish to prevent them from eating the eggs. The eggs will hatch in 24 to 36 hours, and the fry will become free-swimming in 3 to 4 days. Feed the fry with infusoria or liquid fry food until they are large enough to eat regular food.

Other Fish That Can Live with Ember Tetra

Ember Tetras are peaceful fish that can live with a variety of other peaceful fish. They are social and do best when kept in groups of at least six individuals. Good tankmates for Ember Tetras include other small tetras, such as Neon Tetras, Cardinal Tetras, and Cherry Barbs. You can also keep them with peaceful bottom-dwelling fish, such as Corydoras catfish and Otocinclus.

Best Aquatic Plants for Ember Tetra in Your Aquarium

Ember Tetras are small fish that enjoy swimming in and around aquatic plants. Therefore, a well-planted aquarium is ideal for them. Some of the best aquatic plants for Ember Tetras include Java Moss, Anubias, Amazon Sword, Cryptocoryne, and Hornwort. These plants provide hiding places and help to create a natural environment for the fish. Additionally, plants also help to maintain water quality by absorbing excess nutrients and producing oxygen.

Conclusion

Ember Tetra is a popular and easy-to-care-for freshwater fish species that is suitable for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. They are small, colorful,
